Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc.). *

My name is Missy, I am 35, have a dear husband of almost 10 years, an 8 year old daughter, 3 year old son and two year old pup! I work full time as a social worker and also have a side business with Young Living Essential Oils. I love everything Crossfit, baking, crafting and DIY stuff, and just loving on my people in general! Making other people's days is what feeds my soul.

Which affiliate box are you training at? Which class time do you usually attend? *

13 Stripes Crossfit; 6am!

When did you start doing CrossFit? *

I actually started attending a program called Burner X, which was a cario-ish/ CF lite type class at 13 Stripes. Then they changed the times of the class, and I was terrified but kinda forced into just doing Crossfit. I started in 2016 and now I CANNOT imagine my life without it.

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first workout? *

I heard about it while attending the Burner X. I would see the people come in and do it and I was like man they are freaking badass and there is NO WAY I could ever do that. I have no idea what my first workout was but I do remember being so intimidated but empowered at the same time.

What were you doing before CrossFit and how were you introduced to CrossFit? *

Before Crossfit, I was doing Burner X which is kinda like a Crossfit lite! Before that though, I was struggling to find a way to work out. I was postpartum from my son and incredibly unhappy with my body. Treadmills and the gym were not cutting it and my motivation was slim to none. I was introduced to Crossfit by my Burner X coach and he was so encouraging and so glad he pushed me to move to Crossfit!

How has your approach to CrossFit changed since first starting? *

When I first started, I went incredibly light with weights. I doubted myself BIG TIME. I wouldn't push myself. I still think my mind is the biggest hurdle I face. But now I have found more self confidence, as well as confidence I gain from my Crossfit tribe who pushes me to challenge myself!!

What types of changes have you seen (mentally, physically, and/or lifestyle) since starting CrossFit? *

I have become more confident in who I am as a person. More confident in knowing I am a strong woman and I do not have to fit a mold. It became less about losing weight and more about adding weight to the bar. I have moved towards more healthy eating and holding myself accountable in that area and not using food as a reward. Physically, I am stronger than I have ever been. I continue to surprise myself when I hit PRs!

What helps you get the most out of your CrossFit Workouts? What motivates/inspires you?

My CrossFit tribe. They hold me accountable. When I want to quit or I am tired- one of them will say "pick up that bar!" They push me to go heavier. They push me to be a better version of me. The coaches at our box are incredible. They give each person individual attention. My form improves with every class I attend. I am also motivated by my friendships I have made. Some of the most down-to-earth, welcoming,kind people I have ever met in my life. The community of Crossfit is unmatched.

What would you say to someone starting CrossFit for the first time? *

You are worth it. You are enough. You are capable of this. And we ALL started where you are. We all came in not knowing what the heck a WOD, EMOM and AMRAP and allll those names are. We all had no idea what they were talking about with Fran, Grace, and Cindy (are they people in another class??haha). You are welcome. You are going to be a part of a tribe that will love you hard. That will motivate you. That will push you to be a better you. Welcome to this kickass community!

Something you might not know about me:

My childhood nickname was Missy Mouse. I have it tattooed in my Dad's handwriting on my right inner wrist.Also, my favorite color- Cerulean. Not blue, Cerulean. And also, all of my pets have to have names from the movie Elf. Because we are weird like that.
