Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc.). *

I'm a graphic designer and writer who has taken a few years off to work on myself and my health. I am passionate about cars, music, photography, football and traveling.

Which affiliate box are you training at? Which class time do you usually attend? *

Lake Washington Crossfit - 6AM

When did you start doing CrossFit? *

April 2017

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first workout? *

My good friend / chiropractor kept bugging me to come try it out... he's been doing it for years. I don't remember much of the WOD... I was partners with my friend... pretty sure there were burpees and thrusters, neither of which I'd ever done in my life. I almost puked after warming up on a rower. LOL

What were you doing before CrossFit and how were you introduced to CrossFit? *

I've had several personal trainers over the years. My last trainer quit her job to become a realtor, so my friend / chiropractor started "pressuring" me to join him at Crossfit. Needless to say, I was terrified because I have weight and injury issues and didn't exactly fit the mold of what I thought a Crossfitter was supposed to be.

How has your approach to CrossFit changed since first starting? *

I'm more accepting of where I am in comparison to everyone else and am slightly less hard on myself than I was at the beginning. Consistency over major progress.

Favorite WOD or movement *

Deadlifts, strict or push presses, flipping tires and stone to shoulders. No cardio. Ha.

Least favorite WOD or movement *

Cardio. All things cardio or gymnastics - related. Never been able to do a real pullup in my life!

What types of changes have you seen (mentally, physically, and/or lifestyle) since starting CrossFit? *

I have muscles in places I didn't know could be muscular! Ha. Even though my weight hasn't changed, I feel way stronger, way more fit and much more confident. If I didn't keep getting injured to the point that I've been in physical therapy for months, I know I would have made far more progress than I have. I feel like I stand a little taller and don't hate on myself quite as hard as I once did.

What helps you get the most out of your CrossFit Workouts? What motivates/inspires you?

Haven't yet figured out what motivates me. My friend who started me down this path is like a big, supportive brother, so he keeps me from quitting when I am riding the struggle train. I do like when I can lift more weight... that makes me happy and feels like I'm killing it.

What would you say to someone starting CrossFit for the first time? *

Yeah, it's cliché, but if I can stick to this 5 times a week at 0600, I know you can do it. I've had two knee surgeries, am seriously overweight and have zero endurance... they can modify anything to meet you where you are physically. Don't let Crossfit's rep scare you away!

I'm 6'3" and married a shorty (5'5"!)
